SPORTING & ACTIVE PETS

We offer a range of services to keep your sports dogs in prime condition; from fitness conditioning & injury prevention to treatment of injuries for full return to function. We help to treat the canine athlete, working in agility, flyball, obedience and sports as well as optimising body condition for show dogs.

Many sports dogs get injuries that can be difficult to diagnose due to the determined nature of these athletes. They are very good at masking the pain and often want to carry on training and competing. It is therefore crucial for us to pick up on any subtle changes in their demeanour and posture.

Our team has significant experience in orthopaedic and pain assessment. They allow us to pick them up and treat even the most subtle of injuries. Signs of a problem in the canine athlete may not even include a limp. These may be changes in your dog’s demeanor, sleep patterns and posture in everyday life or they may be specific to your sport with some examples including:

  • Agility – knocking poles, slower run times, missing contacts, refusals or even broken start lines.

  • Flyball – loss of quality of box turn, knocking jumps or wide changes between dogs (due to one dog running slower than usual)

  • Obedience – poor focus, loss of confirmation on positions, slow reactions to cues.

  • Show dogs – poor focus in the ring, trying to avoid a position (eg. trying to sit when should maintain a stand), poor gait
